Manoeuvres
Off — you will not be alerted with the screen locked
Nothing below is current. If you are away from her, your fleet and your voyages can still be read from Crewwize.
Diagnostics
Records three seconds, then plays it straight back. Nothing leaves the boat.

Watch routine
The watch routine is specified in REQ-003 and is the next thing after the crew list: named watches, crew assigned by the skipper or the first mate, and an explicit handover that passes the boat from one watch to the next.
It is empty rather than approximate on purpose. A rota that showed a plausible guess about who has the deck would be worse than no rota at all.
Have a Crewwize account? Paste the boarding pass from your account page and this phone is signed in — no officer, and no internet needed here.
No account, or no signal when you left? Ask to join, then show the skipper these four characters so they approve this phone and not somebody else's.
Check the four characters against the phone in front of you before you approve it. Anyone on the boat's wifi can appear here.

Invite crew
Hold your phone up and let them scan. They join the wifi first, then install the app.

Open Crew and tap your name, so the log records who is writing.
This name is frozen into every logbook entry you write. The log is append-only, so a correction is a new entry — it never rewrites the old one.
Your name is kept with your Crewwize account and is changed there, not on the boat — this vessel has nowhere to send a correction to it. Change it ashore and it arrives here on the next sync.
Entries you have already written keep the name they were signed with. That is not a limitation to work around — it is what makes the log worth trusting.
The crew calls you by your first name; the logbook records you in full.

Paste the code from Security on crewwize.com to let this app show your fleet and your voyages when you are away from the boat. It can only read them, and it gives this phone no power on any vessel — a boat's own binding is hers, given aboard and taken away aboard.
Unbinds the device from your name. The next person to pick it up must say who they are before anything they do reaches the log.
Night is the default because white light costs about twenty minutes of adapted night vision, and this screen is used in a dark cockpit.
Device
The screen holds the orientation you pick and does not follow the device. A screen that flips while you are bracing against a swell and reaching for “Tack” is a mis-tap, not a convenience.
Your microphone in a manoeuvre
Open is the default and the right answer for almost everybody: the microphone opens by itself when you speak, so during a manoeuvre you touch nothing at all. Push to talk puts a button on the call screen for a berth where the microphone must stay shut. Open mic sends everything, for when the automatic answer is getting it wrong.
The app asks the boat which build it is serving. There is no internet involved and no update server — the appliance is the only source.
This clears the copy of the app held by this icon and fetches it again
from the boat. Opening /reset in the browser does not help here:
an app started from the home screen keeps its own separate copy, which the
browser cannot reach. The ship’s log is on the boat and is not touched.
